RV Parts You Should Keep On Hand
Owning an RV leads to a lot of adventure and good memories, but it also involves a fair amount of maintenance! It’s helpful to have an understanding of your model’s general upkeep costs and also know what parts you might need to have available for small repairs. Our team at MIG RV has put together a brief list of RV parts you should keep on hand.
1. LP Gas Regulator
Most RV furnaces, refrigerators, and ranges operate on LP gas, or propane. If you want to keep a consistent pressure for these systems, you may eventually need to replace the regulator. Having a spare LP regulator nearby can prevent your camping trip from being ruined!
2. Water Pressure Regulator and Water Pump Parts
The water supply to your RV is essential for comfortable traveling. Typically you’ll be connected to a city water supply or something similar, but sometimes you may need to rely on your holding tank for water. In either situation, you’ll want to be prepared for a malfunction!
Your water pump is responsible for moving water into your RV. If you notice the motor won’t run, you may need to check the fuse, but you may also need to replace the system. Carrying parts or an entire overhaul kit can keep your water pump functioning, even if you’re on the go.
Similarly, you may want to keep a water pressure regulator nearby. This part will prevent damage to your water system if the pressure were to increase.
3. 12-Volt DC Fuses
Your RV is powered by a handful of fuses and you have to be careful to limit your electrical use to avoid blowing a fuse! Keeping a few spare fuses in a cabinet or compartment can keep your power up-and-running.
4. Sewer Drain Cap
It’s required by law to have your sewer line completely closed and secured during travel, but sometimes the hose cap randomly disappears. It can save you a lot of stress if you travel with an extra cap!
5. 12-Volt DC Light Bulbs
Since RVs operate on a specific amount of electricity, you will need special light bulbs to light up your interior. Storing a small selection of 12-Volt DC light bulbs can prevent you from being left in the dark.
6. Engine Care
For those who own a motorhome, you’ll also be responsible for maintaining the engine. Regular oil and filter changes are essential! You can keep a small supply of filters and oil for your specific model to more efficiently care for your engine and stay on a schedule!
